Srinagar  19 March :

Hailing from a remote area of Jammu district Atul Pangotra made it to the news when he was appointed as Coach of the Olympic sport ‘Taekwondo’ for world qualification tournament for youth Olympic Games from 6 to 7 April and for Junior World Taekwondo championship from 9 to 13 April which are to be held in Tunisia.
Atul Pangotra is the first ever coach from the state to be selected for such a post. He is also the first Indian to receive two scholarships from the Kyung hee University of Korea for showing his brilliant performance in Taekwondo and the only Indian to be the member of Asian Poomsae committee till date.
Besides being a great coach he is also an outstanding athlete who is still playing and competing on international and national level and recently won only gold medal for State in senior official national championship held in Jammu but unfortunately due to age bar cannot take part in Asian games this year.
He has also won many gold medals in official international and National Taekwondo Championship and received State Award and Sher-I-Kashmir Award and presently occupies Referee Chairman of Taekwondo Federation of India.
Atul Pangotra was recently invited by Asian Taekwondo Union along with his student Tashi Tundup for the preparation of Asian games as they have introduced New Poomsae in upcoming Asian Games going to be held in Jakarta Indonesia this year.
It was a biggest dream for Atul Pangotra to represent India in Asian games event now he gave a chance to his student Tashi Tundup who will take part in it on his behalf.
But despite all these abilities and talents Atul Pangotra is lacking sponsorship due to his hard luck as currently sports council is running out of funds which is vital for the growth of the game at the state as well as national level.
Government should come forward and do all the necessary help so that the future of the game is insured and the players taking part in such games are encouraged to make a good career in the field of Sports which is the need of the hour.
